Mindset Mondays – Interest vs. Commitment

Mindset Mondays provide you with the motivation to mentally prepare you for the week ahead.  This week interest vs. commitment.

Ken Blanchard, a legendary leadership and management expert, says “There is a difference between interest and commitment.  When you are interested in something you do it when it’s convenient.  When you are committed to something you accept no excuses only results.”  You must decide what you are interested in and what you are committed to.

Commitment  is defined as the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause or activity.  That definition is ok.  It lacks a certain direction.  Now the second definition is WAY better.  Commitment is an engagement or an obligation that restricts freedom of action.  Whew!  That is the one we are looking for ladies and gentlemen.  This game of basketball that you are playing or coaching is something that should restrict what else you do.  If this is something to which you are truly committed, it means giving up some of the other things that peak your interest.  It means going to the gym when your friends are going to hang out.  It means sitting down to make a plan for your next practice when your favorite show is on TV.  It means having a focus on enhancing your skills so that you can be the best player or coach.

Today decide you are committed to improving your results by restricting your actions to those that are going to help you enhance your skills!

You are your only opponent,
