How to Play Basketball Blog – The Reason You Are Not Improving Enough

“I know the reason I was not improving to the level of a top player in the nation.  I did not have a focus when I was on the court.”  It is really that simple.  I was not improving because when I went to the court I had no purpose.  I just loved to hoop.  I just loved to compete.  I just loved to torch defenders.

The saddest part of the whole situation is that I thought it was making me a great player.  I thought the hours at the park destroying every opponent who showed up was making me a great player.  I really thought because of the amount of time I was in the gym, I was truly becoming great.  I did see results as I became pretty good at basketball.  Looking back, it is even more frustrating thinking about all the time I wasted!

I was missing the big picture.  In order to improve to the level of a top player in the state or nation I needed a plan that was specific and measurable.  I needed a plan.  If you are not the best person you have ever played against then you need a plan too!  You need a plan to build good habits.  Once you have a plan then it is time to execute the plan consistently.  Last thing you want to do is evaluate if your plan is working.  Are you getting better?  How do you know?  Are you starting to be unstoppable?  How many points are you scoring?  Are you now the first one to get picked?  Are you winning consistently?  How are you contributing to the wins?  The answers to these questions will tell you what adjustments to make to your plan.  So whatever you do make sure you have a plan based on building good habits!
