Basketball Drills: Ball Handling-Release Dribble (Crossover)

A release dribble is something you want to use when you are trying to escape a trap, great ball pressure or a double team. All you want to do is use your off hand to protect the ball and take a step backwards. Once you have done that you can change directions. Here I change directions with a crossover. Again watch how I protect the ball and take one dribble backwards to release from the pressure and then change directions. Watch me do it full speed here. Notice how quickly I change directions and attack after the release dribble.

  1. You can mentally ptacrice shooting by visualizing a perfect shot. You can also view a video of your own perfect shot. A perfect shot is one in which you hold your follow through until the ball goes through the net, hits the floor and bounces back to you (due to backspin). Video your shot until you get a perfect shot. Copy the perfect shot onto a DVD 100 times. You can then insert the DVD into your DVD player and watch your 100 perfect shots each day. It will take about 10 minutes to view.
